Description
How to Assemble a Quantum Computer: From a Single Ion to a Working Processor
A quantum computer is generally considered a technology of the future, although in Russian laboratories it is already being assembled now. Ilya Semerikov, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Head of the Laboratory at the Lebedev Physical Institute and leader of a scientific group at the Russian Quantum Center, will show how this looks in practice: how a single ion becomes a carrier of quantum information, why the processor needs lasers and control systems, and what physicists and engineers have to solve so that a laboratory setup becomes a working computing device. Separately, the talk will address which tasks quantum computers are already solving today.
After the lecture, listeners will be able to ask their questions directly to the laureate of the National Prize in the field of future technologies “VYZOV” 2023 in the “Perspective” nomination.
