Description
Molecules of the Future: How Chemists Create New Materials and Medicines
Many substances without which medicine and high-tech industries cannot do today do not occur in nature: they were invented and first obtained by chemists. Leonid Fershtat, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Head of the Laboratory of Nitrogen-Containing Compounds at the N.D. Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Professor of the Basic Department of Organic Chemistry of the IOC RAS at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, will talk about how modern organic chemistry makes it possible to design molecules with predetermined properties. Why do some molecular architectures become the basis of energy-intensive and functional materials, while others turn into promising medicines? Using specific examples, the lecturer will show the path of a new molecule from idea and synthesis to a material or technology that can go beyond the laboratory.
After the lecture, listeners will be able to ask their questions directly to the laureate of the National Prize in the field of future technologies “VYZOV” 2024 in the “Perspective” nomination, which Leonid Fershtat received for research into organic functional materials based on high-nitrogen molecular architectures.
